HON. Haruna Iddrisu,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the challenges Senior High School Teachers are facing and urge your office to provide immediate personal security to every teacher in senior high school by petitioning the IGP and parliament to support to ensure Ghanaian teachers are saved.
HON. Minister, our students in senior high schools are treating us with disrespect, fighting us; our lives are in danger. Recently, a Senior High School teacher’s eye was spoiled by a student, another teacher was beaten and slapped by a student in Kade Senior High School, all in the name of a teacher wanting to ensure there is discipline in our students. A teacher was beaten and fought with another teacher in Accra Academy before. Why all this? Are we saved? Our lives are in danger and no one is ready to fight for the Ghanaian teacher. We are all waiting for another student to use a knife to kill a teacher before the nation will talk.
Our students don’t respect us anymore. Teachers can’t discipline students anymore. Students have more upper hands than teachers in secondary schools. There’s no discipline. Senior high school teachers can’t go to town because their lives are in danger. We need serious security to protect us, like the way our M.P’s and everybody has a police officer in his or her back everywhere they go.
HON. Minister, I humbly urge you to send this petition to parliament for our parliament to instruct Ghana Police Service IGP to approve and provide every secondary school teacher a police officer wherever the teacher goes, because our students want to kill us, knife us, and treat us badly. Our lives are in danger; we need protection on our campuses. I know my petition will come out with a good response. This is not the first time I write to you; the first one you gave me a nice response and you have done it. I believe this petition too, you will do it.
