Peace, unity echo through 2025 Benkadi Kurubi Festival

The President of the National Council of Wangara Chiefs in Ghana, Masaba Yussif Coulibaly Fanyinamah III, urged the people of Kintampo to embrace peace and solidarity, stressing that progress in the municipality and nearby areas hinges on these principles.

He issued this call during the 2025 Benkadi Kurubi Festival, celebrated under the theme “Restarting the Spirit, Rekindling the Legacy.” The event drew prominent guests, including Kintampo North MP Hon. Joseph Kwame Kumah, Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Isaac Donkor, and Wangara traditional leaders from various parts of Ghana.

Speaking to the crowd, the chief underscored that lasting development is impossible without peace and highlighted the damaging effects of drug abuse among young people.

“Let me remind everyone that without peace there can be no meaningful progress. I appeal especially to the younger generation to champion peace not just here in Kintampo, but throughout the Bono East Region and the entire country.

“One worrying trend I have observed is how early the youth are breaking down physically and mentally because of hard drugs. This dangerous habit must stop so they can build better lives.”

Describing the youth as tomorrow’s leaders, he added, “Our young people will shape Ghana’s future. What hope do we have if drugs destroy them? I call on the government to implement stronger measures against this threat and plead with the youth to steer clear of illegal substances.”

He reiterated that peace and togetherness are the bedrock of any thriving community. “I once again want to say that peace and unity are the foundations of development in any community.”

Kintampo North Member of Parliament,  Hon. Joseph Kwame Kumah, disclosed that the Benkadi Kurubi Festival was the fourth traditional celebration held in the municipality this year, a clear sign of the area’s prevailing calm. He praised Kintampo for its vital role in safeguarding and displaying Ghana’s cultural diversity.

“The Benkadi Kurubi Festival is the fourth festival being celebrated in the municipality this year, and all of this is possible due to the peace and unity we are enjoying in Kintampo. I will use this opportunity to commend our revered traditional leaders for their roles in maintaining the peace of the community.”

He also commended Bono East Regional Minister Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi for promoting unity and resolving chieftaincy conflicts across the region.

“Our Regional Minister, Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi, has also played a critical role in mitigating chieftaincy disputes in the region. During his last briefing on the floor of Parliament, he made it clear that he has visited all the paramountcies in the region and has put in place adequate measures to resolve all outstanding chieftaincy disputes.”

Kintampo North Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Isaac Donkor applauded this year’s festival theme, saying it invites reflection on shared identity and core values.

“The choice of ‘Restarting the Spirit, Rekindling the Legacy’ could not be more fitting, it calls us to pause, reconnect with the principles of unity, honesty, diligence, and peaceful coexistence that define us.”

He urged participants to renew their commitment to peace, dialogue, and mutual respect. He further explained that rekindling the legacy involves honoring the sacrifices, achievements, and wisdom of our ancestors.

“As we celebrate, let us renew our commitment to peace, dialogue, and mutual respect for one another, these are the qualities that will sustain the progress we seek in our communities and in Ghana as a whole.

“Rekindling the legacy means honoring the sacrifices, achievements, and wisdom of our ancestors. It means passing on to the younger generation a heritage that is not only preserved but continually strengthened, as we are witnessing now in this beautiful and colorful garden.”
