Our opponents have tried to create division in our party but they failed – Asiedu Nketia

The National Chairman of the largest opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johson Asiedu Nketia has said, all efforts to create division in the NDC by their opponents have proven unsuccessful.

According to him, the commentary and publications surrounding who becomes the running mate of NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama are just an “ugly cacophony”.

“There is nothing like any debate about any running mate that I am aware of, I just ignore the noise that is going around because there is nothing. I strongly believe that our opponents want to push some artificial controversy within our system hoping that it will be something that will be divided around and we will be fighting but so far they haven’t succeeded” General Mosquito said.

It was alleged that former President John Dramani Mahama has settled on former Minister for Education, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as his running mate for the 2024 presidential elections.

But Asiedu Nketia said, the NDC has their own systems for choosing a running mate and nothing can change that.

“Our systems for choosing a running mate are never in doubt, and they are there, they have delivered. And so we are relying on that system to deliver” He stated.

General Mosquito as affectionately called indicated that the social media discussion on who to be a running mate is just a noise.

“The procedure doesn’t include debate in the media about who is strong, who is tall, who is weak, who is male, who is female and all these things people are just making noise to satisfy themselves” He added.

He stressed that nothing can make the NDC change their constitution on how to choose a running mate.

“We have a system of selecting our running mate which has been delivered and we have had no reason to amend our constitution to change it so we are relying on that system to deliver a running mate for us for the 2024 elections” Asiedu Nketia stressed.

He explained that their system of selecting a running mate allows the flagbearer to propose his or her choice of running mate for evaluation.

“What is the system? Our system provides a lot of space for the person who has been elected as a flagbearer, to have a strong input of his choice of running mate. So we allow the flagbearer to propose somebody for us and then we act like in our traditional setting where a Queen Mother or somebody proposes a name to the kingmakers then they will evaluate the choice if there is something wrong with it, if there is overwhelming rejection. We don’t go out there to propose our choice, we tell the Queen Mother this choice is not acceptable. Can you bring another person? that is how the NDC system works” Asiedu Nketia explained.
