The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, has expressed optimism that Justice Paul Barffour Bonnie, if confirmed as Chief Justice, will bring renewed integrity, dignity, and discipline to Ghana’s justice system.
Speaking to the media following the vetting of the Chief Justice nominee, Hon. Awuni said she believes his appointment comes at the right time stating she wishes Justice Bonnie well in his pursuit of the high office.
Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni disclosed that the judiciary remains one of the most critical pillars of governance and must be led by individuals who uphold truth, fairness, and transparency. She noted that restoring public confidence in the justice system requires strong moral leadership and a commitment to the rule of law.
“We need leaders who will uphold the law and restore public trust in our justice system, Justice Bonnie should be seen as a person who will protect the laws of our nation and strengthen our courts.”
The Okaikwei North legislator further explained the crucial role lawyers and judges play in promoting justice and fairness, pointing out that their integrity directly influences how citizens perceive the judiciary.
Hon. Awuni further urged the nominee to focus on building a lasting and positive legacy that would inspire future generations of legal practitioners.
“If confirmed, he must work closely with the Attorney General to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and fairly. The nation needs heroes, people of integrity who will uphold and strengthen our justice system.”
She concluded by expressing confidence that Justice Bonnie’s experience and character would help reposition the judiciary as an institution that truly serves the people and protects the principles of democracy.
