The Chiefs and People of Offuman at the Techiman North District in the Bono East Region of Ghana, have celebrated their annual Fofie Yam festival.
The celebrations, which took place at the palace of the Offuman Paramount Chief, was graced with the presence of the immediate past president of Bono East Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area, Pemampem Yaw Kabrese V, , Paramount Chief of Mo Traditional Area, Nana Kwaku Dankwa II, representatives of the Ashanti Regional Queen Mother’s Association, Member of Parliament for Techiman North, Hon. Elizabeth Ofusu-Adjare, the District Chief Executive of Techiman North, Hon. Addo-Donkor Everson, including many other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Yeji Manhene, Pemampem Yaw Kabrese V, disclosed that the purpose of Yam festival is to unite indigents and settlers in the community with the aim of promoting peace and development.
Pemampem Yaw Kabrese V, urged the people of Offuman to support their Paramount Chief, Nana Brokour II and his divisional chiefs to foster development in the community.
“We celebrate Yam festival to promote peace, unity and development, should Nana do anything that goes contrary to customs and traditions of the land, then the traditional council should call him to address the issue but we should not take the law in our hands when we believe Nana has commit an offense.
“We all must fully support him so that Offuman can develop, I am very impressed with the love and support you have shown to Nana from morning up to now, I pray that you will continue to support Nana and his chiefs for the betterment of Offuman.” He said
The paramount Chief of Ofuman, Nana Brokour II, thanked all and sundry for gracing the occasion. He explained that, developing Offuman and it’s environ is paramount to the traditional leaders of Offuman.
He ceased the occasion to thank the people of Offuman and the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs for supporting his bid in becoming a member of National House of Chiefs.
“When the Bono East Regional House of Chief met, we conducted an elections, I was among the five chiefs that contested to represent the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs at the national level and by the grace of God, I was elected among the 3 chiefs that will accompany the President and Vice President of the House at the National House of Chiefs.
“I want to use this occasion to thank the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs for giving me the opportunity to represent them at the national level, and I also wants to thank all of you for supporting me as your Paramount Chief and I know that with your support, we can make Offuman great. ” He said
He assured the gathering that, the proceeds of the festival will be channeled to the construction of a modern palace befitting the status of Offuman.
