The Ahyirem royal family of Offinso traditional area in the Ashanti Region has indicated that the newly installed chief of Offinso has never been a royal and will never be a royal.
According to the family, they are yet to appoint someone to be installed as chief of Offinso, adding that they do not support the installation of the new chief as a family.
Speaking to the media,Mr. Agyare Boateng Thomas,the secretary of the Ahyirem royal family emphasized that Nana Amoako Poku who was installed last Thursday, January 4,2023 is not from the royal family.
Mr. Agyare also noted that, the newly chief, Nana Amoako Poku is under the biggest oath of His Royal Highness Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, adding that,that alone forbids him from being the chief of Offinso.
He stated that they do not support the installation of Nana Amoako Poku and that the family will see to it that Manhyia summons both parties to deliberate on the issue.
In other words,he revealed that the said installed chief couldn’t submit his proposal when members of the royal family were asked to submit them for the position of chief knowing very well he is not a member of the Ahyirem royal family.
“We have petitioned His Royal Highness Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,to look into the Offinso chieftaincy issues again to avoid misunderstanding in the community”,he added.
There have been longstanding disputes surrounding who will become the next Paramount Chief in Offinso after Offinso Paramount stool became vacant following the unfortunate demise of Nana Wiafe Akenten III.
However, Nana Amoako Poku has been announced as the new Paramount Chief for Offinso.
According to a report, the stool name of Nana Amoako Poku has been revealed as Nana Dwamena Akenten II after he swore the oath of allegiance to the chiefs and people of Offinso.
Nana Dwamena Akenten II swore the oath on Friday, January 5, 2024.
