NSA Director refutes claims of Accra Sports Stadium’s unsuitability for World Cup qualifiers

The Acting Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Seth Panwum-Bayoyo, has refuted claims that the Accra Sports Stadium is unfit to host Ghana’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He insists that the facility remains in top condition and fully capable of hosting international matches as it has benefited from regular maintenance and refurbishment.

The Black Stars of Ghana is expected to host Chad on Matchday 5 of the Group I qualifiers on March 17, 2025, before playing away to Madagascar on March 24, 2025.

Speaking to the media, Panwum-Bayoyo assured football fans and stakeholders that the stadium meets all required standards for the qualifiers, insisting that reports suggesting the facility is in poor shape are inaccurate and do not reflect the true state of the stadium.

According to him, the National Sports Authority has carried out the necessary maintenance work to ensure that the playing surface, seating arrangements, and overall infrastructure are in excellent condition.

“The Accra sports stadium is really very solid and in a very good shape,” he stated.

“You know, since the last incident that led to the closure of the Baba Yara sports stadium, and we put in every effort to refurbish the Accra sports stadium, it has still been maintained, it has still been maintained to its standard till date.”

On issues concerning the VIP section, he said, “We have a sanitary consultant working with the authority. And the portion of the VIP that was once aired on your sister station, which was deemed inadequate, has all been sorted out. I think as of now, if you visit the place, you will have a different view of it.”

He also urged fans to rally behind the national team as they prepare for the qualifiers, expressing confidence that Ghana will put up a strong performance on home soil.

The Black Stars of Ghana are currently second in the Group I standings with 9 points, having won 3 and lost 1 out of the four games played so far.
