Following a Tamale High Court ruling that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency of the North East Region should be re-run, the party has announced the timelines for the election.
According to the party, nominations will be opened on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 and closed on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
In a release signed by the General Secretary of the Party, the parliamentary primaries will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
“An Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate (APC) shall obtain nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000.00 in a banker’s draft payable to the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA. To successfully file the nomination, an APC shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 35, 000.00) in Bankers Draft in favour of the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA.” The statement said.
The legal battle between Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru and the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu came after the MP challenged the election results in the Walewale constituency of the North East Region.
Hajia Lariba Zuweratu who initially lost the election to Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru alleged some irregularities.

PRIMARY RE-RUN
Following the High Court ruling, the New Patriotic Party has approved the timelines for re-running the parliamentary primary election at the Walewale constituency.
The approved timelines are as follows:
Opening of nomination: Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
Nomination Closure: Thursday, September 5, 2024
Election: Sunday, September 8, 2024
1. An Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate (APC) shall obtain nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000.00 in a banker’s draft payable to the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL
HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA.
2. To successfully file the nomination, an APC shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 35, 000.00) in Bankers Draft in favour of the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA.
3. Women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% rebate on the filing fees. This means they must pay a non-refundable filing fee of seventeen thousand and five hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 17,500.00). To ensure clarity, we define a youth as an individual between the ages of 18 and 40.
4. However, those who participated in the general parliamentary primary election and paid the filing fees are not required to pay again.
5. No one will be denied access to purchase nomination forms.
6. The Elections Committee (EC) shall comprise the following persons:
1. Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, Chairman
2. Alhaji Nurudeen Fuseini, vice chairman
3. Hajia Safia Mohammed, Member
4. Evans Nimako, Secretary
5. Chairperson of the Constituency Council of Elders;
6. All Constituency Executives (Ex-Officio Members)
The party has also approved detailed rules and regulations to govern the conduct of the parliamentary primary election, which will be made available to stakeholders. Nomination forms will be available for purchase at the constituency party office.
