Struggling Ghana Premier League giant, Kumasi Asante Kotoko brought joy on the faces of their supporters on Sunday, April 21, 2024 after they managed to beat Samartex 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
This is their first win in eight games leaving the football club in 10th position on the league table.
The head coach of the club, Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed gratitude to the supporters for not giving up on them despite their abysmal performance in their last games.
He also apologised for the pains and disappointment.
“When we were coming for the came, we actually thought the fans would boo us, but when we came the reception was very positive and excellent. They sang from the blast of the whistle till the end, and that is the spirit of Asante Kotoko.” He said after the game.
“We are grateful to our supporters for your support today. Sorry for causing you a lot of pain and letting you down along the line but you are the same people who can bring us up. On behalf of the technical team, playing body and IMC I say thank you. None can be compared to you.” Prosper Ogum wrote on X.
It would be recalled that some angry supporters stormed Adako Jachie during training season to stop the players and demanded the sack of the coach.
One supporter said Kotoko has never lost 11 matches in a single league season and 3 consecutive matches in Kumasi.
“Out of 27 points, Kotoko has amassed only 4 points. After the first round, the Kotoko position was second on the league log. Kotoko has never lost 11 matches in a single league season. I don’t remember the last time Kotoko lost 3 consecutive matches in Kumasi. But with all these, the coach is still at post. Wow!” He said.
“We have a coach who was giving free hand to buy his own players, but what do we see? A coach who receives 4000 dollars as salary and 5000gh on other incentives. With these performances? Hmmmmm” The angry supporter added.
