Okyeame Kofi Adu, the Deputy Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party in the United States, has spoken out against the Ghanaian government’s initiative to rebrand the country’s public school system.

Adu, who is based in the US, expressed his views on the matter, stating that the rebranding efforts led by the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, are “insensitive” on the part of the government.

Okyeame Kofi Adu comments follows an announcement by the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, that his sector has rolled out a new set of uniforms for basic school students and also repaint from their current brown and yellow hues to a vibrant blue and white palette

The rebranding initiative, which aims to modernize and improve the public education system, has received several backlash from a section of the public despite the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, explaining that the project is only targeted at specific students and new structures.

Okyeame Kofi Adu in a statement said, “in the first instance, an expensive hole has been dug in the name of a Cathedral, La General Hospital demolished, Supreme Court Judges Apartment pulled down, Public Universities have been renamed, Ameri moved from Western region to Ashanti region and renamed, now painting school blocks with NPP party colours, what a shame.

“The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Akuffo Addo and Bawumia government is also reminded that schools lack teaching and learning materials like Textbooks which seemed to be the priority not change of paint on school blocks and school uniforms, Okyeame advised.”

” I called this programs a scam, embarrassment on Ghanaians mind, waste of taxpayers money, failed initiatives and unnecessary step to be taken at this difficult time as the communicators of the government in power always compared their mismanagement to Russia Ukraine war, COVID and many other things they have mentioned.”

Okyeame Kofi Adu, therefore calls on traditional leaders, the Clergy, Peace Council and other pressure group’s in the country to voice out to the forthcoming hazard from the Education Minister.
