The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, says internal dissatisfaction among members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) played a significant role in the NDC’s electoral success.
According to him the NDC received “enormous support” from within the NPP, particularly from individuals who felt the party’s recent direction did not reflect the values they once believed in.
“I’ll say it frankly, we had enormous support from within the NPP, people who believed that what was happening was not reflective of the true NPP they knew.” He said.
He explained that many of these supporters stood up for the national interest, insisting that “enough was enough” as they feared President Akufo-Addo’s actions were steering the country in the wrong direction.
According to him, some members of the NPP base firmly believed that it was only a matter of time before the country suffered further under the current administration and decided to back the NDC to prevent that outcome.
“There were people who stood for the country and those who felt that enough was enough. We received a lot of support even from the NPP base, who believed it was only a matter of time before President Akufo-Addo’s actions would lead the country astray, and they could not allow that to happen. And so, we won.” He stated
