The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia has indicated that Mahama’s second coming will see to the completion of all Cocoa Roads that were awarded to contract under Mahama’s first term of office as president.
According to General Mosquito, most roads that lead to cocoa growing communities were awarded under contract for easy access to these communities, emphasizing that cocoa has been the backbone of Ghana’s economy, therefore making it important for cocoa growing communities to have their share of the National cake in terms of development.
He indicated that the NDC was unfortunately voted out of government after awarding these roads under contract and has since been halted after eight years under Nana Addo, Bawumia government.
“After eight years under Nana Addo, Bawumia’s leadership, almost all cocoa growing communities are complaining about the poor road network which keeps impacting economic growth and affecting businesses in these communities”,Mr. Nketia stated.
Addressing traditional leaders and the people of Nkotimso in the Upper Denkyira West Constituency of the Central Region during his retail campaign tour across Ghana, the chairman revealed that it’s the party’s top most priority to revisit these projects and complete them to release stress from the communities and also enhance growth and development of the country.
In other words, the former National Secretary of the NDC highlighted the party’s initiative of providing free fertilizer to cocoa farmers in order for them to produce more metric tons of cocoa beans, emphasizing that farmers were able to produce about 1 million tons of cocoa under President Mahama’s era.
However,he lamented on how the NPP twisted things around to sell these fertilizers to cocoa farmers, reducing the million tons farmers were able to produce under the NDC government to 46 thousand metric tons under the current Nana Addo, Bawumia led NPP government.
He further used the opportunity to thank the voters of the Upper Denkyira West Constituency for voting for an NDC Parliamentary candidate the first time and also pleaded with them to make it big this time round by voting for both the presidential and Parliamentary candidates of the party come December general elections to ensure transformational development of the Constituency.
On his part, the Akwamuhene of Nkotimso Traditional Council called on the NDC to invest in the youth of the community by financing the Agriculture sector to reduce unemployment rate in the area.
He further noted that empowering the youth in the agriculture sector will help control galamsey activities in the area.
