The General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has revealed that the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, was in advanced talks to rejoin the party.

He said the party has always acknowledged her contributions towards building the NDC and for that matter they did everything for her to return to the party before her passing on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Speaking in an interview, Fiifi Kwetey stated that the party’s efforts can not be described as unsuccessful.

“I won’t say the talks with Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings were unsuccessful, I would rather say the time was very difficult because clearly everything shows that she was ready. We always say the role she played actually made this party great and strong.” He said.

It would be recalled that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings left the NDC in 2012 after she lost the presidential primaries.

The late former Jerry John Rawlings’s wife then formed the National Democratic Party (NDP) but the Secretary General said he is glad that the party’s effort started during her time.

“Despite the difficulties that came along the way we needed to ensure that we placed those things behind that, I am happy that during her time this effort started and she obviously embraced it. We were hoping that the 5th anniversary of the Founder was the time we were going to outdoor those efforts.” He added.

“But as you said man proposes and God exposes so I am happy that during her life she could see that efforts happened so that clearly made us to feel that all the work that she has done in building the party has not been ignored.”
