The Chairperson of Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, is set to be appointed as the new Executive Board Chairman of the team.
The Kontomponiaferehene and a chartered accountant, has been leading the Porcupine Warriors since Saturday, July 21, when Owner and life patron of Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II initiated a four-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) to run the affairs of the club.
Per reports, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will name Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua as the new Executive Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko barring any last-minute changes after which Asante Kotoko will constitute a new board/management team for the upcoming season.
Asante Kotoko, will be hoping to get a good season in the 2024 / 2025 football season after finished 6th in the 2023 / 2024 football season, where the team get 49 points out of the possible 102 points, as they won 14 games, drew 7, and lost 13 games.
Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role of Executive Board Chairman. His appointment is expected to bring stability and growth to Asante Kotoko, as the club continues to compete at the highest levels of Ghanaian football.
As part of Kumasi Asante Kotoko move to rebuild the team, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has expressed his confidence in the team’s recent recruitment.
“Technically, they are very good players, they are able to exhibit the basics in the game, the basics and advanced characteristics of the positions that they play. They are comfortable on the ball, they are fast, they are strong on the ball, and you can see that they are very very confident as individual players and as a group so I am happy I tracked them and was able to sign them. I think they are going to give us a new face in respect to our performance.” He said.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko SC, has been given the approval by the Ghana Football Association to participate in a high-profile international friendly against Major League Soccer (MLS) side, DC united.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Audi Field in Washington DC.
