The 2024 Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as Napo’s personal lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has won NPP Parliamentary primaries in Manhyia South constituency of the Ashanti region.
The private legal practitioner secured 376 votes to beat Nana Owusu Prempeh who got 141 votes on Sunday, 14 July, 2024 primaries.
Other contestants were Akwasi Coker Gyambibi who got 2 votes, while James Owusu had 7 votes.
The Manhyia South NPP primaries was held after the party confirmed Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to the NPP flagbearer, Dr, Mahamudu Bawumia.
Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah political profile
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah was a polling station agent for the NPP in the Manhyia South Constituency in the 2000 and became polling station executive in 2001.
He occupied Ashanti Regional Secretary of Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) from 2002 to 2003.
The Legal Practitioner worked hard and was elevated to Manhyia South Constituency Patron.
He also worked as Political and Legal Communication of the NPP and also Assisting the Manhyia South Constituency with financial, educational, healthcare, employment and logistical support to the structure of the party to the run-up to the general election.
The NPP PC also among other things provide free Legal advice and representation to some members of the party where needed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has resigned from his position as Energy Minister.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has today, Thursday, 11th July 2024, accepted the resignation from the office of Hon. Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, as Minister for Energy, with effect from 18th July 2024. This decision has been made to enable Dr Opoku Prempeh to focus on his new role as the Vice-Presidential Candidate and Running Mate to the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.” Communications Director at the office of the President, Eugene Arhin said in a statement.
