The Country Director of Coginta Ghana, Rev. Father Clement, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, officially commissioned an ultra-modern Community Police Post and Peace Centre at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality, marking a significant boost to community policing and local security.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive for East Gonja, Hon. Kassim Yazid Rabiu, officers of the Ghana Police Service, the Constituency Chairman, traditional authorities, and residents of the Kafaba community.
The project, which was fully funded by Coginta Ghana, was facilitated by the Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah, through Choice Ghana. The facility is expected to enhance peacebuilding efforts, strengthen security, and improve police–community relations in Kafaba and surrounding communities.
Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive commended all stakeholders whose contributions ensured the successful completion of the project, including the Member of Parliament, Choice Ghana, and the Kafaba Wura. On behalf of the people of East Gonja, he expressed profound appreciation to Rev. Father Clement and Coginta Ghana for what he described as a timely and critical security intervention. He assured residents that the facility would be effectively utilized and pledged the Assembly’s commitment to providing additional accommodation to complement the project.
In his remarks, Rev. Father Clement explained the centrality of peace and security to community development, noting that these considerations informed his prompt approval of the project after it was presented by the Member of Parliament and Choice Ghana.
He urged residents to remain vigilant against violent extremism and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities. He also recounted how the Executive Director of Choice Ghana and the Member of Parliament personally visited his office in Tamale to advance the initiative, and appealed to the community to protect and maintain the facility.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Shiraz, expressed gratitude to Rev. Father Clement and Coginta Ghana for supporting the Ghana Police Service through the project. He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and encouraged residents to see the police as partners by promptly reporting criminal and unlawful activities.
He further commended the Kafaba Wura, the Member of Parliament, the MCE, Choice Ghana, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the initiative.
The Kafaba Wura, in his address, expressed excitement about the commissioning of the facility and thanked Coginta Ghana for the intervention. He also appreciated the Member of Parliament and Choice Ghana for facilitating the project and appealed for additional development support for the community.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Regional Police Commander, the Divisional Commander for East Gonja, the NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr. Haruna Abdul Aziz, who represented the Member of Parliament, staff of the East Gonja Municipal Assembly, students, traditional leaders, and residents of Kafaba.
