Former Chelsea FC midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has called on management of Chelsea FC to sign at least one more striker in the just opened 2025 winter transfer window to boost their chances of qualifying for next year’s UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea FC, who enjoyed an impressive eight-game winning streak across all competitions from November 23, 2024, to December 19, 2024, have picked only one (1) point in their last three (3) English Premier Leagues games, with one (1) draw and two (2) consecutive defeats.

The Blues were held to a 0:0 draw at the Goodison Park by Everton before suffering a 2:1 defeat to Fulham at Stamford Bridge and 2:0 at Portman Road to Ipswich Town F.C.

Enzo Maresca’s side are now 4th on the Premier League table with 35 points.

According to Mikel Obi, although Chelsea FC’s project under the new ownership is working, the team will need to bring in a player who can step up and score goals when Nicolas Jackson is not performing at his best. Mikel Obi, who had a successful spell at Chelsea between 2006 and 2017, believes that the addition of a new striker will provide much-needed depth to the team’s attacking options.

He also urged the current squad to step up their game and return to winning ways because every game and every point matters in the English Premier League.

“The project is working but we need someone to be there when Nicolas is not scoring, we need a second striker to be there, come in, take responsibility and wins us games, that was my argument and my conversation”

“Maresca says we played 9 games, a couple were conference league. It’s not a question of fatigue. I come back to it, players think December is a f’ing holiday, it’s not a f’ing holiday, it’s time to pick up points because these are going to matter come the end of the season, if you think it’s time to have Turkey, wine, no. It’s been like a holiday period for us this December, we were never like that”

“January? We need another striker, I’ve said this so many times, Goalkeeper worries me”. He said

Hoverer, the 37-year-old former Super Eagles captain expressed confidence in Chelsea’s new owners and management, stating that they know what they are doing and he is hopeful that in the Summer of 2025, Chelsea FC, will boost their squad with a new striker, goalkeeper, midfielder, and a defender.

“Speaking with the club, I think they know exactly what they want to do, the players they want to sign and the players they want to get out.”

“In the summer, I think we might see a striker, goalkeeper, maybe another midfielder and defender.” He said.
