Methodist Church Hosts Peace Concert in Techiman Ahead of Elections

The Wenchi Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana, has organized a peace night of praise and worship concert in Techiman.

The event, held at the Techiman Ebenezer Methodist Church auditorium brought together politicians, officials from the Electoral Commission, Road Safety Commission, Ghana Police Service, and the general public with the aim of promoting peace before, during, and after the upcoming elections.

The concert, themed “Advocating Peaceful Elections for a Better Ghana,” featured peace messages conveyed through music, urging attendees to prioritize peace and unity during the electoral process.

Madam Adwoa Dei Acheampong, the Secretary for the Wenchi Diocese Choirs, emphasized on the significance of the event, given Techiman’s history of electoral violence.

She encouraged politicians to focus on their policies and programs rather than resorting to violent rhetoric during their campaigns.

“During the 2020 elections, we lost lives in Techiman which was very bad, as choristers, we may not have the capacity to follow the politicians around and campaign for peace but we can use programs of this nature, to preach peace to the people of Techiman and Ghana at large.

“Violence is no respecter of man, color, church or political party, so we have to be very mindful of our words, politicians should refrain from hat speeches and concentrate on their policies when addressing a gathering and we believe that by so doing, this year’s elections will be very peaceful.” She disclosed

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman South, Hon. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko, urged political parties to genuinely commit to peace and refrain from inciting violence.

“Achieving peace is a collective effort and we all must fight hard in order to maintain and preserve our peace. Political parties are promising to ensure a peaceful elections and I will urged them to honor that promise.

“As the President of Ghana has promised a free and fair elections, so as our Member of Parliament, Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah has promised and so have I” .He said

He reminded attendees that Ghana’s unity is paramount, saying, “We have only one Ghana, and only one Techiman.”

“This program is very timely because we will soon go to the polls and Techiman still remembers what happened during the last elections when two people lost their lives, a situation we are praying won’t happen again.

“I am with the believe that we will witness a peaceful elections. We must all be agents of peace before, during, after the elections  and by so doing, we will have a peaceful elections.” Hon. Benjamin Gyarko said.

Additionally, Hon. Marti Oti Gyarko former MP for Techiman North and Parliamentary Candidate for NPP appealed to women to take the peace of Ghana seriously and advise their children against engaging in election violence, noting that women would be the most affected in the event of conflict.

“The very people in churches are those that will be involved in the voting and so I will advised them to advice their family against any electoral malpractices.

“Normally when the unfortunate happens, women and children are those that are affected the most although men are usually those who engages in electoral violence.

“So the women at the church should advice their husbands and sons to desist from any act that will lead to violence and respect the electoral laws. After voting, kindly go home and wait for the results.” He explained.
