The Manso Nkwanta Saint Francis D/A JHS has given a sheet of paper containing a list of items to be purchased by the parents and guardians for the school.
The list we intercepted include:
1. Urinal GHc 150
2. Monday wear only Top GHc 150
3. Thursday wear only Top GHc 120
4. House Jersey GHc 120
5. Teachers Motivation GHc 30
6. Admission GHc 100
7. Camping of students for BECE GHc 3,000.
Speaking to some angry parents they disclose that they were even made to buy furniture for their wards.
” Although John Mahama has not yet cancelled the free education despite the rumours being circulating that he’s going to cancel it, why are school authorities using all means to extort money from parents” an angry parent who chose to speak anonymously asserted.
However School authorities as well as Parents Associations have been warned not to levy any parents as far as teaching and learning is concerned what has gone amiss, this is total cheating and corruption at the highest level.
“The most annoying part is that this so-called House Jersey, Monday and Thursday wear doesn’t add anything to my kid’s education, just a waste of money.” A frustrated parent asserted.
In trying to ascertain the truth of the report we called the school head teacher Madam Rita Oppong who confirmed and said it was a decision by the Parents Association to embark on such levies on parents not the school’s directives. Madam Rita Oppong also refuted the report of GHc 120 per House Jersey and said it is being sold at GHc 60 but for the rest of the uniforms such as Monday and Thursday wears were agreed by the Parents Association. On the question of has she informed the district education directorate about the school’s challenges she answered several forms have been filled indicating that the district education directorate is aware of their challenges but nothing has been done about it.
On his part the education circuit supervisor for the area Mr. Ahenfo also disclosed school managers have been barred from such acts and expressed his surprise at what is going on at St. Francis D/A JHS at Manso Nkwanta.
Therefore he promised to inform the district education director who according to supervisor Mr. Ahenfo he’s new in the district.
