Former President John Dramani Mahama’s recent allegations of widespread cheating among the recent West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) graduates has met with several criticisms, most especially, members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Social Media users have also attacked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for his comment.
Some suggest the former president is hurt by the results “So Mahama wanted our children to fail so he can attack Free SHS because of his presidential ambition ?” said one comment.
“He is bitter about the results,” said another. “I think Mahama is tired and needs some rest. His message is finished,” said another.
“In many places, they let the children cheat. You go to places, and the teachers are conniving with the students to cheat. The effect will be seen later,” the former President Mahama reportedly said.
Reacting to the comment, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC suggested the former President should be quarantined before causing chaos in the country.
“John Mahama is saying that the children who just completed their WASSCE of which their result was over 70% passed, cheated. You see John Mahama if you don’t quarantine him there would be a problem in this country. The thinking ability of the person who is seeking to be president again is not working” Abronye stated.
“John Mahama has to know that if a child is going to school and he has not finished paying his bills he can’t concentrate on his studies, Freedom of mind to concentrate on his education is not there because teachers would chase the students for bills, so how would that students write their exams and pass. But this is the case whereby the children go to school every morning with a special breakfast and get three meals a day, which is quality education. So, they have that free mind to learn,” he added.
He reiterated that due to the implementation of the Free SHS policy, no student put pressure on their parents for money so they can concentrate on their education and pass their exams.
“Since 2027 to date, no student has called his parents and reported that he has been sacked from school because of school fees except the private schools so they have that free mind to learn. That is why from 2017 over 65% to 70% pass their exams because the government is not demanding any fees from them. Nana Addo has absorbed all the fees” Abronye said.
