To reduce expenditure and protect public purse, President John Dramani Mahama has banned first-class travels for government appointees.
He also urged them not to waste Ghana’s resources on luxury.
Speaking during the swearing-in of ministers at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, 2025, President Mahama stated that the resources belong to the Ghanaian people so there would be no room for arrogance or pomposity in this government.
“I must however, remind you of the same caution I sounded to your colleagues who have already taken office that the hallmark of this government will be modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people. There would be no room for arrogance or pomposity in this government.” He said.
“The resources that you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office. Those resources must not be wasted on extravagance or luxury. I have asked the Chief of Staff to write to all government appointees, that I have posted a ban on non-essential travel to cut down expenditure.” Mr. Mahama announced.
He explained that any travel that is deemed essential and necessary must be cleared first with the Office of the Chief of Staff.

According to him, Ghanaian people are under serious hardships due to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s bad government and that his administration will ensure that the natural resources are used for the benefit of the citizens.
