The Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has appealed to members of the Appointments Committee to make effective use of the time allocated for questioning ministerial nominees during the vetting process.
The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central disclosed that, maximizing the time given to each member of the committee will ensure efficiency, allowing the committee to vet as many nominees as possible within the designated time frame.
According to him, the successful vetting of ministerial nominees is crucial for the swift formation of a competent government, which will help the country advance in terms of development.
“All of us have supporters out there, all of us need to satisfy our supporters, when we are vetting, let’s make good use of the time allocated to us so that we can be efficient, we can vet as many people as possible, so that we can have the ministers at the various ministries functioning and delivering on the commitments that Ghanaians endorsed at the polls by the way they voted.
“I’m pleading with members of the committee and I will have discussions with my colleague the Minority Leader so that we can come to some conclusion on the time allocation and how long we take to vet individual nominees.” He said.
The Majority Leader made this assertion when addressing the media after the chaotic scenes that unfolded in Parliament during the Appointments Committee’s vetting session last Thursday evening.
Hon. Ayariga urged committee members to stay focused and prioritize key issues during their questioning, which will ultimately lead to a more efficient and timely process.
Minister designate for Communications, Digitalization, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, spent close to 5 hours and 10 minutes during his vetting .
