Some afforestation workers in Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono region have lamented over the arrears of their salaries.
According to them, they are yet to receive payment of the salaries for the past one and half year.
They said, “for the past one and half year, we have not been paid yet we always report for work, if we skip work for even a day, you will have questions to answer to our supervisor so we beg whoever is holding our salaries to release it”.
The aggrieved afforestation workers said life is becoming very unbearable for them as they do not even have money to pay for food to feed them and their family.
“During the tenure of the late Sir John, things were not like this, we were paid on regular basis but now we have lost all interest in the work because we don’t even have money to buy food although we are working satisfactory and to the best of our abilities so we beg the authorities to pay us so we can feed our children”. They lamented
They further made a passionate appeal to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to come to their aid.
Reacting to this unfortunate development, the Municipal Chief Executive of Dormaa Central, Hon. Drissah Quattara said “the salaries are not paid by the local government but rather the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, so now that I have become aware of their plight, whenever I get the opportunity, I will champion this cause so they can get their salaries”.
According to the MCE, his outfit will write a formal letter to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to find the best solution to solve the issue at hand.
He however indicated that, “at the time being, we will have a meeting with their regional officer and find out why their salaries have been delayed.”
