The Kwahu Traditional Council has strongly denied reports that the Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III, has been abducted. The Council described the claim as “entirely false.”
In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, the Council said the rumour had no basis and insisted that the Queen Mother was not taken away by force.
According to the Council, the confusion began after police officers acted on a court order issued by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
The statement explained that the interlocutory injunction, dated 24 June 2024, was in favour of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II. It said the injunction “restrains Baffour Osei Akoto, who has been styling himself as Kwahuhene, together with the Queen Mother and others, from interfering with Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II’s occupation and duties at the Abene Palace.”
The Council added that the Ghana Police Service stepped in “to secure the peace” and to prevent potential clashes. It stressed that the action was not an abduction but a lawful enforcement of the court’s directive.
Clarifying further, the Council said the Queen Mother “does not reside at the Abene Palace, nor do any of the individuals who were arrested”. It stated that “contrary to circulating rumours, no abduction has taken place”.
The Council also claimed that the Queen Mother had engaged individuals to forcefully take control of the Abene Palace and had issued threats aimed at obstructing the work of the substantive Kwahuhene.
The statement said she had “engaged thugs in an attempt to forcibly take over the Abene Palace and has issued threats intended to disrupt the legitimate work of the substantive Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II”.
The Council confirmed that those arrested during the police operation are safe. It said, “All persons arrested by the Police are currently in lawful custody and are safe and in good health.”
