A delegation from the Forestry Commission of Ghana, led by the Regional Manager for the Savannah Region, Mr. Frank Adomakor-Kwabia, visited Salaga on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to establish a District Forestry Commission Office in the East Gonja Municipality.
The move follows a formal request by the Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed, aimed at strengthening forest management, supervision, and environmental protection across East Gonja and its adjoining districts.
Upon arrival, the team paid a courtesy call on His Majesty, Kpembewura Banbange Ndefoso IV, and his sub-chiefs to officially communicate their mission. His Majesty warmly received the delegation and commended the MP for her dedication to advancing development within the constituency.
At the palace, Mr. Adomakor-Kwabia explained that the visit was sanctioned by the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission. He said the team had been tasked to inspect temporary office spaces and accommodation facilities in preparation for establishing the new district office.
He noted that East Gonja, North East Gonja, and Central Gonja districts are currently managed under the Yendi Forest District, and the vastness of the area makes effective administration and supervision difficult. He described the request for a district office in Salaga as timely and urgently needed.
Mr. Adomakor-Kwabia expressed appreciation to the Kpembewura, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the staff of the MP’s office for their support and cooperation.
His Majesty Kpembewura Banbange Ndefoso IV gladly endorsed the initiative, stressing the growing threats of deforestation and widespread charcoal production in the area.
“I am happy to receive your team and welcome the decision to establish a Forestry Commission office in Salaga. The issue of deforestation and charcoal production is a serious concern to me as a leader in this Municipality, and I am ready to partner with your office to address this phenomenon. You have my full blessings, and I am prepared to release land for the construction of your permanent office and staff bungalows,” he stated.
He appealed to the MP, the Municipal Chief Executive, and all stakeholders to collaborate effectively with the Forestry Commission to ensure the successful establishment of the new office.
Following the palace engagement, the delegation, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, toured several temporary structures proposed for office space and staff accommodation. After the assessment, the team assured that a comprehensive report would be submitted to the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission for consideration and approval.
The Forestry Commission delegation included the Savannah Regional Forestry Commission Manager, Mr. Frank Adomakor-Kwabia, Mr. Kofi Sarpong, Yendi District Forestry Manager, and Deputy Yendi District Forestry Manager, Mr. Samuel Kwarteng Obeng.
Officials from the Municipal Assembly and the Office of the MP present were Mr. Alhassan Mahamadu Kamara, Municipal Coordinating Director; Chief Abu Ibrahim, Deputy Director, Access and Estate; Mr. Haruna Abdul Aziz, Constituency Chairman; Mr. Mustapha Tawfic, Staff, YEA; Mr. Ahmed Fuseini, Deputy NADMO Director, Disaster Control; Mr. Tanko Yakubu, District Accountant, NADMO; Mr. Mustapha Nafiu, Director of Special Projects, Office of the MP; Mr. Kwabena Andrews, Special Aide to the MP; and Mr. Saaka Sulemana, Research Assistant to the MP.
