Okogyeman Kese Basahyia II, the Benkumhene of the Techiman Traditional Area and Techiman Forikromhene, has urged journalists to be circumspective in their reportage.
According to him, the media has the power to shape and dismantle nations and therefore the media should be mindful of their publications.
Okogyeman Kese Basahyia II, bemoaned the fact that most journalists reports based on hearsay.
He made a passionate plead to media houses and journalists to be responsible in their reporting.
“Some of our journalists reports based on hearsay and that is very bad, we have an adage that the pen is mightier than the sword.
“I am a journalist and also a writer, so I know that journalist are very crucial in the development of a country and also have the responsibility to protect the peace of the country, because the media has the power to make or break our nation.
“I will plead with the media to be responsible enough especially as the country gears towards the 2024 general elections, we should be circumspect in our reportage.” He said
Okogyeman Kese Basahyia II, continued “we have some journalists who are not responsible and don’t factor in what their utterances may cause, some don’t read or fact check their information and I will plead with them to practice responsible journalism.”
Nana also ceased the occasion to caution the people of Forikrom and Techiman at large to refrain from any activity that will disrupt the peace of Techiman.
He categorically said the Techiman Traditional Council, will not plead on behalf of anybody who will be caught by the police as a result of electoral malpractices.
“I am using this opportunity to advice the people of Offuman and Techiman at large, that they should refrain from any activity that will lead to violence during the elections
“If you are not responsible and you are caught by the police, no chief in Techiman will come to your aid, so be responsible, respect the electoral rules, go and vote and go home.” He said
