A promising young journalist, Mispa Sekyibea Apem Darko, has called on media professionals in Ghana to explore farming as a supplementary career, highlighting its potential to provide financial stability and long-term security.
Speaking in an interview with Elder Isaac Mensah of Oman FM at her acre rice farm in Obrayeko, Awutu Senya West Municipal, Mispa Sekyibea Apem Darko shared her personal experience in agriculture and underscored the financial benefits of engaging in farming alongside media work.
“Farming is one of the easiest ways to earn a living and support yourself or your family,” she said, noting that while her career in journalism provides her with a platform and income, it may not be sufficient to secure her future entirely.
The journalist, who has carved a name for herself in the media industry, revealed that she could have chosen to focus solely on journalism. However, she sees agriculture as a strategic avenue to achieve her personal and professional goals while encouraging the youth to consider farming as a viable career option.
Her farm, which serves as a tangible example of her commitment to agriculture, demonstrates the potential success media practitioners can achieve by diversifying into farming. Mispa Sekyibea Apem Darko hopes that her experience will inspire other journalists and young Ghanaians to embrace agriculture as a pathway to financial independence and long-term sustainability.
