The president of the Republic of Kenya, William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto has lamented over how the African continent is losing its pride despite the numerous resources.
He said 30% of the world’s natural minerals and natural resources are in the African continent, adding that Africa has 60% of all renewable energy resources globally.
Delivering a speech during a Special Sitting of the East African Community Legislative Assembly in Nairobi William Ruto stated that it is incorrect to classify the African continent as a continent of conflict, poverty and disease despite all the natural resources.
“It is no longer tenable for us in Africa to continue wearing the badge of conflict, disease and poverty when in our borders we have the largest deposits of minerals. In fact, 30% of the world’s natural minerals and natural resources are in our continent.” He said.
“We have 60% of all renewable energy resources globally. We have a 1.4 billion people market. In fact, by 2025 it is going to be the single-largest market in the world. We have two-thirds of the world’s uncultivated arable land that we can use for food security. With those kinds of resources, it is incorrect to classify our continent as a continent of conflict, poverty and disease.” The president stated.
According William Ruto, it is time for the Africans to write their own story.
He explained that the story is not about disease, conflict, poverty but about the potentials and opportunities in the continent.
“It is time for us to write our own story. And our own story is not about disease, it is not about conflict, it is not about poverty. It is about the great potential that we have. It is about the opportunities that we have. It is about the investment that is awaiting and positioning our continent as the only place where the next industrial revolution is going to happen.” He said.
