Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled the Queen of Denyase Traditional Council, Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II for violation of the sacred Great Oath of the Ashanti Kingdom.
At a meeting of Asanteman Council on 14th October, 2024, Otumfuo stated that Denyasehemaa is a family member but she can’t be forgiven for going against the Great Oath while others are facing the consequences.
According to him, he will do everything to protect Asanteman and the Great Oath.
“You brought me here to serve Asanteman with truth. You told me when you were advising me that the Great Oath is your root to serve Asanteman. I will do everything within my powers to protect the Great Oath. They told me I don’t have mother, siblings, friends when I was coming to ascend the throne as Asantehene.” He said.
“What they told me is that the Golden Stool and the Great Oath is what we have given you. That is your property. I have to be able to tell my brother Osei Kwadwo that what you are doing is not good because this is what they have given me. Whenever they have issues they come to Asantehene and say we are your royals. He killed Agyapomaa who was his loved one for Asanteman to emerge victorious.” Asantehene added.
According to him, Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II is part of the royals and that he can do everything to support her incuding financial support but voilating the Great Oath can not be forgiven.
“I like him, he deserves it but if you have violated the sacred of the Great Oath, how can I forgive you and punish others who do the same. I vowed to serve Asanteman when I ascended the throne 25 years ago. We have to be bold and tell the truth. She has violated the Great Oath so I can’t forgive her but she is my auntie if she comes to me for money I will give her. But going against the Great Oath, she can’t sit on the throne again.”
