Businessman Richard Jakpa who was acquitted and discharged together with Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson by the Court of Appeal in the ongoing ambulance case has entreated the next presidents of the Republic of Ghana to circumspect whom they will appoint as their Attorney General.
According to him, the Attorney General General is the first person to enforce the law and all ethics of the legal system so if a president appoints a crooked person or a gangster who doesn’t work by the rules, innocent people and men of integrity will be jailed.
“What I see is that we have a problem at our Attorney General’s office, and what I will entreat the subsequent presidents is to really check the character of who they appoint as Attorney General of the country. Because if you want to protect our democracy and the rule of law, you must be very circumspect of whom you appoint as your Attorney General. Because he is the number 1 enforcer of the law, and all ethics of the legal system, he is the leader of that.” Richard Jakpa said this during an interview with the media after they were acquitted and discharged.
“So if you appoint a crooked person who doesn’t play by the rules, a gangster and he comes and takes that position, then you can be rest assured that innocent people, men of integrity will all be sent to jail. And most Ghanaians, a lot of people who are in other institutions, have no choice than to join them. You can see that almost all our institutions have been captured, they are silent. We only have a few men of integrity who are in state institutions and they are trying to enforce rules of the law.” He stated.
According to him, Ghana has had two independence. The first one was secured by the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the second independence was also secured by the late John Jerry Rawlings so Ghanaians should vote for former president John Dramani Mahama to secure the third independence for the country.
He said Ghana is in a bad situation and it needs a man of integrity to rescue the country.
“So it is very important that when it is time for us to go and vote on December 7, Ghanaians who want to protect this democracy and give a third independence to Ghana should support John Dramani Mahama.” He indicated.
