Ghanaian rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur, Michael Owusu Addo known professionally as Sarkodie has said if he wants to jab someone, it has to be a rapper not a singer.

He explained that his new song titled “Brag” which he mentioned Nigerian artistes such as Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy Ghanaian singer, rapper Mohammed Ismail Sherif, professionally known as Black Sherif, formerly Blacko has sparked a rap battle between Ghana and Nigeria but he didn’t jab anybody in the song.

According to Sarkodie, he mentioned the renowned artists in the song, which is coming off his incoming mixtape, “The Championship,” on 24th May, 2024 as a reference.

He stressed that if you are talking to the world Wizkid, David, Burna Boy, Black Sherif and Asake are the biggest artistes to be mentioned as a reference.

“Exactly what you just said, it is quite funny, I don’t understand what is happening but I love it. I love it because it’s great PR. You can’t even pay for this, Wizkid, David, and Burna, would never think I jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers. Exactly what you said, I was just talking to rappers about how long I’ve been there, and as a reference, who else to use? You are talking to the world so these are the best people to use. Everybody knows Wizkid, everybody knows Burna Boy, everybody knows Black Sherif, Asake, Davido.” Sarkodie said this in an interview with VoxAfrica.

The Ghanaian rap icon emphasized that Wizkid , Davido , Burna Boy, Asake, and Black Sherif whom he called his boy are incredible, amazing artistes and he will not jab them.

“And it’s very true. I was there when Wizkid came in, Davido came in, Burna Boy came in, Asake, Black Sherif. They’re just references of how long I’ve been there. It’s not throwing jabs at anybody. These are incredible, amazing artistes. Black Sherif is my boy. Do you think I would jab Black Sherif? No,” he said

He added that the trend of the song is advantage for him since it will make people listen to his project but the truth is that he didn’t jab anybody.

“But to be very honest, I wouldn’t like to even clear this because I like the energy that’s going. It’s not true, but we’re loving it, you know, and there’s a lot of trends it’s making next Friday look very beautiful for me because people want to listen to the project,” Sarkodie added.

” And I thank God, you know, I was talking to somebody and I said even if we sat down to plan this PR, we wouldn’t get this PR. And most organic PR is the best kind of PR you can get. So I’m super proud that there’s energy out there, especially as far as hip-hop is concerned, which has not been the conversation in a while so I’m super proud but I’m definitely not jabbing anybody.”

“If I’m jabbing anybody, it has to be rappers. And I don’t care about that; with that, I can go all out. And even the biggest jab will be the fact that I didn’t mention any rapper because nobody is as consistent and famous as these singers, so that is why.”
