US president Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (Joe Biden) has said he dropped out of the presidential race to avoid distraction that could have caused the Democrats to defeat former President Donald Trump in the November polls.
According to him, there were a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate who thought that I was going to hurt them in the races.
“What happened was that first, a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic. You’d be interviewing me about, Why did Nancy Pelosi say, why did so — and I thought it’d be a real distraction.” The 81 year old told US broadcaster CBS News.
“Secondly, the first time I ran I thought of myself as a transition president. I can’t even say how old I am. It’s hard for me to get out of my mouth. But things got moving so quickly, it happened. And the combination I thought is still a critical issue for me still… is maintaining this democracy.” He added.
Joe Biden stated that it is an obligation to the country to drop out of the race so that they can defeat Trump.
“I think it is important because it is a great honor to be president, I think I have an obligation to the country to do the most important thing you can do, and that is we must, we must, we must defeat Trump,” He explained.
Joe Biden quitted the race and threw his support for Kamala Harris.
The 46th president of the United States said he is grateful to Americans for supporting him to rebuild the Nation.
“I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We’ve protected and preserved our Democracy. And we’ve revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.” Joe Biden said in a statement to announce his decision to step down as a presidential candidate for the Democrats.
