Italian professional tennis player, Jasmine Paolini has acknowledged her Ghanaian heritage saying she is proud to have a Ghanaian blood in her body despite being an Italian citizen.
The 2024 Wimbledon finalist believes she was able to achieve this remarkable milestone because of her Ghanaian descent.
The 28-year-old in an interview said she is fast because of Ghana.
“I will always say that for me, it is important and I am proud to have different blood in my body and of course, I feel Italian because I was born in Italy. But I think the importance of my life, my mum is Polish, but my grandfather is from Ghana and I think I am fast because of Ghana,” She said.
“But you know, when I was younger, like 10 years, every summer when I was going to Poland, I can speak Polish and I think it is something more, a plus to me so I am really proud of it.” She added.
Jasmine Paolini made history on Thursday, July 11, 2024 after defeating Croatian professional tennis player, Donna Vekic 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(8) to win the women’s semi-final at the All England Club.
Jasmine Paolini has won two singles and three doubles titles on the WTA Tour, including a WTA 1000 singles title at the 2024 Dubai Tennis Championships.
She won her only junior title at the J4 Wilson ITF Junior Classic in Bergheim in 2013.
The Ghanaian-Italian tennis star was born in Italy on 4th January, 1996.
Her father, Ugo, is Italian and her mother, Jacqueline, is of Polish and Ghanaian descent.
Her maternal grandmother, who lives in Łódź, is Polish and her maternal grandfather, who lives in Copenhagen, is Ghanaian.
