Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Chairperson of Mahama’s Anti-Corruption Preparatory Team, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says he is convinced that majority of the Board of Trustees for Ghana’s National Cathedral were misled by outgoing President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express which was keenly monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, were deceived by President Nana Addo in joining the Board of Trustees with the assurance that the National Cathedral will be build without state funds.
He explained that, former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta at the blind side of the public withdrew public funds for the construction of the National hence his assertion that the Board of Trustees were misled by the President.
“I am convinced that a lot of these clergymen were misled. They were deceived by the president, to put it bluntly, because at their first board meeting, I have all the evidence, they were told by the president that public funds will not be used.
“Indeed, some of these reverend ministers then proceeded to even deliver sermons that assured their congregations that public funds will not be used. It was later that I intercepted documents from the finance ministry that apparently on the blind side of parliament, in violation of the constitution of Ghana, public funds have been used withdrawn by Ken Ofori Atta, without the knowledge of the public.
“Some of us who take the view, regardless of what CHRAJ is saying, that this eminent clergy really were misled by the president and if you read the resignation letters of Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Rev. Eastwood Anaba, they state it clearly, that this is not what they were told, this is not what they expected to happen.” He said
The Legislature however disclosed that, the Founder of Power Chapel Worldwide, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, needs to answer some serious questions in terms of double identity scam. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, also stated that, the resignation of some members of the Board of Trustees should have been grounds enough for the rest of the Board of the Trustees to also resign.
“I have a lot of sympathy for this eminent clergy, I think that they were just misled. Probably when the likes of Otabil, Dag Heward-Mills, Eastwood Anaba, and Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams were resigning, they all should have followed them and resigned and block.
“Apart from Victor Kusi Boateng, Kwabena Adu-Gyamfi who has criminal issues to respond to, part from him and his double identity criminality, the rest of the eminent priests, I honestly think that we really have to look at the evidence again, from what I have seen, they were simply misled.” He said.
