The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mohammed Abdul-Salam has responded to his critics who believe his new role in government contradict the Muslim faith.
According to him, he is not just a Muslim but he found nothing wrong with his position as far as national development is concerned.
In an interview with Citi FM, Abdul-Salam stated that My predecessor (Sammy Awuku) is a Christian but he held the position.
“The appointment as NLA boos came as very exciting news to me. I am a practicing Muslim. I’m not just a Muslim; I am a practising Muslim, but I’m not a fanatic leader. Neither am I an extremist. Even as we are speaking I have dressed my Muslim attire. My predecessor is a Christian, I don’t know which part of Christianity, allows for a Christian to assume that office.” He said.
He stated that he officially resumed office on Friday, 17th January, 2025. Adding that his appointment fulfills his ambition when he joined the NDC.
Mohammed Abdul-Salam indicated that he did not lobby for the position.
“Today, Friday, I was at the Offices of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) to formally resume work as the Director General. I can not say that the position was given to me because I lobby for it. Neither will I say that I was just sitting and it was given to me. The very day I joined NDC, I developed ambition for growth so I see it as part of my growth.”
“There is nowhere in the government that I ruled out should in case opportunity is given to me to serve. As long as the laws and rules of Ghana allow for that system to exist, I welcome and I expect that I could be given any role to play in government. So as long as it is not illegal, I had that expectation.”
