Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has lamented how an Aspiring Member of Parliaments promised to construct roads when they are voted for to represent their constituencies without a budget.

He said Leaders of political parties can promise to construct roads in the country when Ghanians give them the mandate because every government presents a budget statement to Parliament for approval to govern the country but he is surprised when he hears aspiring Members of Parliament promising to construct roads without a budget.

Speaking during a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K Bagbin at Manhyia Palace on Sunday, 30 June, 2024, the Monarch of Asante Kingdom said they should tell the constituents that they will help enact laws that will promote national development than making promises they can’t deliver.

“The political parties campaign and share their visions of what they want to do when Ghanaians give them a mandate. An aspiring MP without a budget, how can you say you will construct roads when you go to Parliament? What you have to say is if you help me to go to Parliament, I will speak on your behalf to help pass laws that will enhance Ghana’s development.” Asantehene quizzed.

Otumfuo also questioned why a lot of people are struggling to get to Parliament nowadays.

“Why is it that everyone wants to go to Parliament now? What is there and a lot of people are eager to be a Parliamentarian. We have to know these things and find solutions to them.” Asantehene added.

Asantehene is not the only person who has raised concerns about why people are eager to enter Parliament recently.

Media Personality, Bridget Otoo speaking on a KSM show monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com also predicted that the integrity of parliament will be called to question some times to come.

“I see people lying, I mean everybody is going to parliament. Look at the Jubilee House, everybody is going to parliament from the money that they have stolen from the state they want to go to parliament so if I look at them, I think the integrity of parliament will be called into question some times to come.” She stated.
