The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry and Member of Parliament for Techiman North, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in collaboration with the Techiman North District Assembly, has commissioned a solar-powered mechanized borehole for residents of Asempanaye.

The facility, commissioned on Saturday, December 6, 2025, is expected to serve as a reliable source of clean drinking water for the community and its neighbouring settlements.

Commissioning the project, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare said the initiative marks the fulfilment of a major campaign promise to the people of Asempanaye. She explained that the intervention forms part of broader efforts by her office and the District Assembly to expand access to potable water across the constituency.

“What we are all witnessing here today is the fulfilment of my campaign promise to the people of Asempanaye, that should they vote for me and H.E. John Dramani Mahama, we would ensure that they receive access to potable drinking water.”

She added that other communities in need of potable water will soon benefit from similar mechanized boreholes, as measures are already in place to construct and commission them.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare explained that the comfort and wellbeing of her constituents remain a top priority. She noted that her office is working closely with the District Assembly to bring lasting relief to communities facing water challenges.

“I want to assure the remaining communities in Techiman North that are in need of potable drinking water that we have put measures in place to construct and commission modern mechanized boreholes for them.

“The comfort of my people is my priority, and my office, in collaboration with the District Assembly, will ensure that we bring relief to our beloved communities.”

The Techiman North District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, in an interview with our reporter stated that providing potable water to rural communities is a key priority of President H.E. John Dramani Mahama. He disclosed that ten percent of the District Assembly Common Fund has been allocated to support the construction of mechanized boreholes across rural areas.

According to him, the Asempanaye water project was delivered through a partnership between her office and the District Assembly under this policy.

“The provision of potable drinking water in our rural communities is a great priority for our President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama. As a result, ten percent of the District Assembly Common Fund has been earmarked for the construction of mechanized boreholes in rural communities across the country. In line with this, the office of our Member of Parliament collaborated with the District Assembly to provide this solar-powered mechanized borehole.”

As part of measures to ensure the longevity of the project, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare commissioned a committee to safeguard the facility and ensure its continuous flow of water for residents of Asempanaye and the surrounding communities.

President of the commitee, Mr. Alale Aparigu, assured Hon. Ofosu-Adjare and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, that the borehole would be well maintained to ensure its long-term sustainability.

“On behalf of the committee, I want to assure Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson that we will take very good care of this project so that it serves its purpose, even for future generations.”

Some residents who spoke with our reporter expressed joy and relief, noting that they had struggled for years to find a reliable water source. They described the new facility as a major breakthrough that would improve their health and quality of life.

“We are very grateful to Hon. Elizabeth and President Mahama for giving us this water; we are truly lost for words.

“This is not the first time our MP has done something like this for us. She has already commissioned several water projects in the district, and she continues to do more to ensure that all her constituents have access to good drinking water. We are very grateful.

Another resident said, “We have been crying for a good water source, and our MP has finally come to our aid. She has provided us with a mechanized borehole, and we are extremely happy and grateful.”
