The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, together with the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, have inspected the abandoned 60-bed Euroget Salaga District Hospital to assess its current state and chart a path toward its completion.
Meeting with traditional elders of Salaga South, Hon. Mintah Akandoh, explained that he had earlier paid a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura before continuing to Bole. He clarified that his visit was not a ceremonial stop ahead of the upcoming funeral, but rather a clear demonstration of government’s determination to address longstanding challenges affecting the district.
The minister expressed gratitude to the chiefs and opinion leaders for their leadership and for mobilizing community members to clean and maintain the neglected hospital premises despite years of abandonment.
He also praised the Salaga South MP, Hajia Zuwera, for her unwavering advocacy on the stalled project, describing her as a hardworking representative committed to improving the welfare of her constituents.
“Having served four terms in Parliament, I can easily identify a dedicated and hardworking MP, and the Salaga South legislator certainly fits that description.”

The Health Minister described the state of the facility as disappointing, noting that the project which commenced in 2010 had all its components completed, making its current neglect deeply unfortunate. However, he assured the chiefs and people that the government is committed to reviving the project.
“It is the firm policy of the President not to abandon any inherited project,I have been given a clear instructions to ensure all such projects are completed.”
He explained that visiting the site himself was necessary so he could adequately brief the President on its condition, stressing that it would be irresponsible to be unaware of the status of such a key health facility.
The minister expressed heartfelt appreciation for the warm welcome he received from the elders and admitted he was nearly emotional listening to their words of encouragement.
He also urged the people of Salaga South to consider him as one of their own as government moves to address the challenges surrounding the abandoned hospital.
