The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is expected to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, 3rd January, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. promptly on the floor of Parliament.

Friday’s presentation will be Nana Addo’s final State of the Nation Address since 2017. After the SONA, the 8th parliament of the 4th Republic will be dissolved on Monday 6th, January, 2025 paving way for the inauguration of the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic at 11:00 pm same day.

The State of the Nation Address is a significant event mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution and provides an opportunity for the President to reflect on the achievements of the past year and outline plans for the year ahead. The address is expected to cover a wide range of topics, including the economy, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security.

In a statement issued by the Parliamentary Service on Monday, December 30 2024 and signed by the Deputy Coordinator, Dissolution / Inauguration Committee, Camillo Pwamang, Members of Parliament – elect for the 9th Parliament as well as Speaker-elect will take their oath of office at midnight to mark the beginning of the new Parliament.

Parliament as therefore in the statement outlined 7 measures to smooth media coverage of the transition process.

GUIDELINES FOR MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE MESSAGE ON THE STATE OF THE NATION. DISSOLUTION OF THE 8TH PARLIAMENT AND INAUGURATION OF THE 9TH PARLIAMENT
In accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will present to Parliament, a Message on the State of the Nation, prior to the dissolution of the 8th Parliament, on Friday, 3 January, 2025 at 10.00am prompt.

The 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic will stand dissolved on Monday, 6th January, 2025. The 9 Parliament will reconvene on the same day at 11.00pm for the election of the Speaker and two Deputy Speakers. The Speaker-elect and members-elect will be sworn in at midnight.

As is customary, it is expected that these events will be covered widely by the media. To ensure a smooth coverage of the events, Parliament requests the media to comply with the following guidelines:
1. Media personnel covering the events are to obtain accreditation from Parliament.

IL All accredited media personnel must display their accreditation tags conspicuously throughout the events.

III. Interviews and live broadcasts shall be conducted at the foyer on the ground floor of the Chamber Block. Space allocation in the foyer will be on “first come, first served” basis.

IV. Media Houses intending to broadcast live from Parliament are to set up by the evening of Thursday, 2nd January, 2025, for the Message on the State of the Nation Address and by the evening of Sunday, 5th January, 2025 for the Inauguration of the 9th Parliament

V. All media personnel and equipment will be screened, in line with Parliament’s laid down security protocols.

VI. Electronic media personnel may obtain clean feed from Parliament.

VII. The public gallery is designated for invited guests. Media activities in that space will therefore be limited.

Parliament requests all media personnel to adhere to these guidelines for the success of these events. Parliament values the cooperation it has with the media in its accountability endeavour and hopes that this collaboration will be further deepened in the 9 Parliament.
