Management of Accra based football club, Accra Great Olympics, has addressed claims of disrespect towards the Gbese Mantse.
The statement was issued in response to allegations that the team had shown disrespect towards the traditional leader by not honoring a match under his auspices. In the press release, Accra Great Olympics stated that, the Gbese stool, is a “patron of their club and therefore disrespect towards the stool and it’s occupant” has never occurred to them
The management emphasized that the team holds the Gbese Mantse and the entire Gbese community in high regard and would never intentionally do anything to disrespect . However, they disclosed that the image of Accra Great Olympics has been brought into disrepute and needs to set the record straight by posting seven (7) pertinent questions.
- Did Gbese Mantse and the organizers raise the needed funds demanded as pre-condition for honoring the match?
- As at the time the match was called off at the last minute, has the Great Olympics been remitted with even GHS 1 to be used for their preparation, accommodation and feeding for the match?
- What happened during the launch and why was the Great Olympics represented by only one official at the very last minute of the launch?
- Was Nii Gbese expecting Olympics to still go ahead and play the match after failing to fulfil his side of the bargain for the match to come off?
- Were any changes in agreed conditions communicated to the Olympics?
- What happened before a program on Metro TV to promote the match was cancelled when our supporters’ chairman was already on the precincts of Metro TV?
- When in 2007, the Hearts fans invaded the field and abandoned a Ga Mantse (Not Gbese Mantse) Cup Match between Hearts and Olympics when Hearts were trailing 2-1 (They had the previous week lost 3-0 to Olympics)? It is on record that till date, he has not rendered any public apology as the then CEO of hearts.
Management of Great Olympics further stated that, they are ever ready to partake in any match as long as the conditions precedents as agreed by the parties are met.
