The Chief Executive Officer of GRATIS Foundation, Dr. Isaac Adaebsah, has announced a major partnership with CERTAIN GTS Co. Ltd from Korea to advance Ghana’s gari industry through a Carbon Financing Gari Processing Project. The meeting, held at the GRATIS Foundation headquarters, brought together Mr. Hangsok Kim and Ms. Haley Lee of CERTAIN GTS and marked a key step toward promoting cleaner, energy-efficient gari processing across the country.
The initiative, being championed by MYDE, GRATIS Foundation, and the Ghana TVET Service, seeks to transform the gari value chain by introducing modern, energy-saving processing equipment. The new technology is designed to significantly reduce the use of firewood in gari production, creating safer working environments and generating carbon credit revenue to support Ghana’s climate commitments.
As the technical lead, GRATIS Foundation will establish assembly centers in selected regions and train young people in the assembly, operation, and maintenance of the new machinery. The Foundation will also develop operational guidelines and provide technical support to ensure a smooth nationwide rollout.
Dr. Isaac Adaebsah explained that the initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader agenda of driving industrial development through sustainable technology and green innovation. He noted that the project will strengthen local manufacturing, create jobs for the youth, enhance productivity in rural gari-processing communities, and improve working conditions—particularly for women who dominate the sector.
He noted that the project’s benefits extend beyond production efficiency. He revealed that the partnership will contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions while supporting rural economic transformation through increased access to carbon finance opportunities.
