The government is set to construct a 10,000-bed student hostel at the University of Ghana as part of efforts to ease persistent accommodation challenges on the campus.
President Mahama made the announcement at the opening ceremony of the University of Ghana’s 77th Annual New Year School and Conference on Tuesday, January 6, where he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across tertiary institutions.
The Project, according to President John Dramani Mahama, follows an agreement signed during his official visit to Singapore. He said the facility will be built using prefabricated construction technology to ensure faster delivery and efficiency.
He disclosed that preparatory work for the project is already underway, adding that the machinery and factory equipment to be used in manufacturing the hostel components have been shipped from Singapore and are currently en route to Accra
“When I went to Singapore, we signed an agreement for a 10,000-student hostel at the University of Ghana, and this is going to be a prefabricated building, meaning the structure will be manufactured elsewhere and then assembled on campus. The machinery and factory equipment that will manufacture the building components have been shipped from Singapore and are currently on their way to Accra,” he said.
