Ghanaian Gospel musician, Obaapa Christy says there is nothing wrong for a pastor to sing a secular song that talks about God in church.
According to her, God loves secular musicians and for that matter they should be given equal opportunities like gospel musicians.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM’s U Say Wetin, Obaapa Christy stated that everybody has a purpose on earth and so we should not judge anybody based on our own understanding.
“In King Paluta’s ‘Aseda song’ he mentions the name of God so it is the same as what we are singing. God loves all of them. If somebody sings hiplife, it doesn’t mean the person is a sinner. It doesn’t mean the person can ot go to heaven. That is his mission on earth. Everybody has his or her mission. People judge all of us, but whatever you do, you should always concentrate on what God has said about you.” She stated.
Her comment comes after Acting Rector of St. Stephen Rectorate, Bodomase, of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Rev. Fr. Peter Kusi Twumasi apologised to the Catholic Church for using King Paluta’s hit song “Aseda” during church service.
Reacting to this Obaaba Christy said “Everything happens for a purpose, some issues like this if you don’t take care, you will hurt somebody. Always you have to understand what you want to say so that it will not somebody. There are so many categories of songs. We have gospel songs, profane songs and others. If I sing Amakye Dede’s song or King Paluta people will say different things about me. Whatever you will do, people will talk about it but you have to assess yourself to see if what you are doing is good for you.”
“If you don’t understand something, you judge it wrongly, but at the moment you will come and understand it, the story becomes different, so the Catholic Priest, what happened supposed to happen so we should leave it like that and let God do what He wants to do.” She added.
