In a move to strengthen ties between the media and public institutions, the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Bono East Region, on Thursday, paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Dr. Awal Mohammed.
The delegation, led by the Regional Chairman, Mr. Frederick Antwi, visited the DDG at his office to formally congratulate him on his recent appointment and discuss avenues for mutual cooperation.
Chairman Frederick Antwi, speaking on behalf of the association, extended warm congratulations to Dr. Mohammed, emphasizing the pride the region takes in his achievement. He encouraged the DDG to bring his expertise and dedication to bear on his new role, urging him to “work harder to help make the region proud.”
In his response, Dr. Awal Mohammed expressed his profound gratitude to the GJA team for the thoughtful visit and the goodwill message. He seized the opportunity to advise media professionals in the region to remain united, stating that a cohesive front is essential to elevate the image of the Bono East Region and attract the development it deserves.
Dr. Mohammed further called on other media practitioners in the area who are not yet members to join the GJA. He highlighted the crucial role a strong, professional association plays in promoting ethical and developmental journalism.
A highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of the region’s latest journalistic talent, Mr. Anass Sabit. The team showcased Mr. Sabit, who was recently adjudged the Best Journalist in Domestic Tourism at the prestigious national GJA Awards held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. His achievement was celebrated as a testament to the quality of journalism emerging from the Bono East Region.
The visiting delegation included Emmanuel Akwetteh of Free FM and Belinda Tetteh of TV3, underscoring the representation from both radio and television platforms within the region’s media landscape.
The meeting is expected to mark the beginning of a strengthened partnership between the GJA Bono East and the Ghana Standards Authority, fostering a collaborative environment for public education and regional development.
