The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, has constructed and handed over a state-of-the-art Public Employment Center office complex for the Bono East Labor Department.

The office complex, which is located behind the Techiman South Metropolitan Assembly, is expected to enhance employment opportunities and reduce the rate of unemployment in the Bono East region.

The newly commissioned Public Employment Center, is equipped with modern facilities and will serve as a hub for job seekers to access a range of employment services such as job training, career counselling, and access to job vacancies, all designed to empower residents of Techiman and the Bono East region at large.

GIZ Ghana Country Director, Dr. Dirk Aßmann, explained that, his outfit seeks to provide opportunity for the youth in Ghana to make inform decisions about their future. He said GIZ is working with the European Union to ensure that youth in Ghana get access to higher education, vocational training and skills development to enhance their capacities.

“Its all about making sure that we give the youth the skills, guidance, and opportunity to make importance choices for their future.

“The European Union have been life partner to Ghana and global sustainable development. We are working together to ensure higher education, vocational training, and skills development are accessible in the line which is in demand at the labor market.

“We aim to provide opportunity for in terms of job creation and climate change adaptation. Just as it is outlined in Ghana’s green job strategy in 2021 to 2025, by investing in Ghana’s indigenous skills, we can work together to make sure that Ghana and her youth are better equipped to under the climate change and to get jobs.” He said.

The Bono East regional Manager for the Public Employment Center, Mr. Ernest Boakye, in an interview with the media, disclosed that in addition to the Public Employment Center, the newly handed over office for the Labor Department, will serve as a base for labor-related activities and services in the region which includes administration of labor laws, dispute resolution, and the promotion of safe and fair working conditions.

According to him, GIZ aims to reduce unemployment rate in Ghana with emphasis to the youth in Techiman since most of the illegal immigrants from Ghana to Europe in search of greener pastures via desert and sea are from the erstwhile Brong Ahafo Region hence the establishment of the Public Employment Center, Labor Department by GIZ.

“GIZ have realized that, it is the labor department that can help reduce unemployment in the country, so they decided to help us by constructing an office complex for us to operate in.

“This office complex will go a long way in providing employment opportunities for the youth, most of the youth in the erstwhile Brong Ahafo region migrates to Europe through the desert and sea and most of die along the way.

“So GIZ wants to help the youth in the erstwhile Brong Ahafo region to secure jobs and desists from migrating to Europe via the desert and sea hence the construction of this office complex.” He said.

Mr. Ernest Boakye further disclosed that, the center is open to all and sundry irrespective of their socioeconomic background or educational status.

He however urged JHS graduates to at least complete their second cycle education before applying for jobs through the Labor Department since it will increase their chances of securing jobs.

He said the Public Employment Center, Labor Department have office across the erstwhile Bono, Ahafo, and the Bono East Region and therefore encouraged the youth to bring in their application letters.

“The office is open to all, Although JHS leavers are welcome to bring their applications but I will ever encourage our youth to at least complete their second cycle education as that will increase their chances of getting employed through the labor department.

“We will sit down with those that will bring their application, council, and guide them in choosing the right job for them so our office is open for all and sundry.

“Thanks to GIZ, we have offices at Sunyani, Dormaa, Berekum, Goaso, Techiman including others.” He said.
