Ghanaian sports journalist, Saddick Adams believes Ghana would have been more developed than the current state of the country without the numerous natural resources in the country.
He said it is pathetic that a country with gold, diamond, timber, bauxite, OIL and others is still underdeveloped.
“I used to wonder how Ghana, with all resources like gold, diamond, timber, bauxite, OIL etc is still underdeveloped.” He wrote on his X.
He attributed the underdevelopment in Ghana despite the resources to the share of profit the country got from these resources.
According to him, the percentage Ghana gets from its resources is less than the percentage of getting a chicken leg from full chicken.
Adding that the little profit is also diverting its purposes that can benefit the citizens.
“Later realized the percentages of these resources that accrue to Ghana combined is less than the percentage of getting a chicken leg from full chicken. And that meager percentage is also an object of corruption before Ghana gets its real share. We’d have been better off without these resources.” He said.
Saddick Adams also expressed doubt about former president John Dramani Mahama’s promise to create a new administrative city outside of the Greater Accra Region to cater for government services due to the congestion in the capital city of Ghana.
The renowned Sports Journalist said this is good but whether the government will be able to do it.
“When I was in Equatorial Guinea in 2015, we observed intensive construction in the middle of a jungle with large vehicles moving day and night. We were later told the country was constructing a new city to move the capital away from Malabo.
“By 2017, people had started moving to the new city. The Administrative capital now has the Presidential Palace and Presidential Guard, along with the Government Ministries, the Parliament and the Supreme Court and national gardens.”
“Read somewhere the construction was from oil royalties with the Chinese government. The idea of a new city to decongest Accra is long overdue but I’m afraid, if we’ll have funds…our “democracy” yi.” He stressed.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II has criticized the government over inedequate share of the country’s mining.
