A research scientist at the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute, Dr. Naomi Asabre Frimpong, says Ghana will need a lot of investment in space technology, in space engineering communication and research.
According to Dr. Frimpong, Ghana, through the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute, plans to explore space and that will require substantial investment in various areas: satellite manufacturing, ground stations, and communication systems.
She believes that investing in space technology will not only help Ghana become self-reliant in terms of satellite imagery and data analysis but also provide new opportunities for scientific research and technological innovation.
She further explained that Ghana can launch a rocket to explore space should the country get the necessary support and investment.
“Ghana does plan to go to space, however, we will need a lot of investment in space technology, in space engineering communication and research because our infrastructure right now does not support going to space as far as the international space station.
“You know Ghanaians are really brilliant, we have a lot of potential and we are able to do a lot even with the little we have, with the little infrastructure that we have in our country.
“So with support from the government, with support from the communities, and of course from the public, and our own research and universities, Ghanaians can contribute a lot to the international scientific community.” She said
Dr. Frimpong continued, “I don’t think we should look down on our scientists or on our researchers, they are doing a lot even with the little that they have.”
Dr. Naomi Asabre Frimpong, said this during the 2024 IAU General Assembly which was hosted in Cape Town, South Africa.
The IAU General Assembly serves as the largest global platform for astronomers, scientists, and researchers to discuss advancements in astronomical research and foster international collaboration.
