The Government of the Republic of Ghana has strongly condemned the military coup in Guinea-Bissau, describing it as an unacceptable disruption of democratic governance.

The condemnation was issued on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.

According to the statement, Ghana views the takeover as a direct assault on the democratic process that followed the peaceful presidential and legislative elections held on 23rd November 2025.
The ministry expressed deep dissatisfaction with what it called a “brazen attempt” to overturn the will of the people of Guinea-Bissau and noted that the action has interrupted the anticipated declaration of results scheduled for 27th November 2025.

The Government of Ghana has called for the immediate restoration of constitutional order and urged all parties in Guinea-Bissau to respect democratic procedures.
The ministry emphasized that any grievances arising from the electoral process must be addressed through peaceful, transparent, and legally recognized mechanisms.

The statement also highlighted Ghana’s concern for the safety and fundamental rights of citizens and foreign nationals in the affected country.
Particular attention was drawn to the protection of officials serving under the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission, whose safety and secure passage Ghana insists must be guaranteed without delay.

The Government of Ghana further appealed to the people of Guinea-Bissau to remain calm and avoid actions that could heighten tensions in the country.
The ministry reaffirmed Ghana’s full support for ECOWAS and the African Union in their coordinated response to the crisis, in line with regional protocols on democracy, good governance, and constitutional rule.
