Highlife musician Akosua Agyapong has called for the arrest of Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) executives.
According to her, GHAMRO has been operating without a license for the past three years.
Adding that the Music organization doesn’t have a board, she said it is illegal for GHAMRO to call for emergency meetings and withdraw money.
“The Attorney General has not renewed GHAMRO license since 2018. How can an organization without a license board call for an emergency meeting and collect money. Abraham Adjatey called for an emergency meeting which is not right. The executives must be arrested because they have violated the LI of the organization” Akosua Agyapong alleged.
The Television personality also urged GHAMRO to ensure transparency.
“I said there is no transparency at Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) and I will continue to say that GHAMRO should focus on transparency “She added.
Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) is a royalties collection agency within Ghana that represents the rights of music copyright holders. It was created under section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005. The agency collects royalties for all rights owners in Ghana. Before 2005, that function had been operated by the Copyright Society of Ghana.
The organization has faced regular criticism about its transparency and engagement of stakeholders. As of 2018, the organization was led by Rex Omar. Abraham Adjatey, commonly known as ‘Agya Abraham’ is currently the CEO of the organization.
