The Crops Manager for Green Generation Farms Limited, Mr. Frank Nti, has urged farmers to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices to protect the environment and cope with the growing impacts of climate change.
Speaking to our reporter, Mr. Nti noted that farming remains a lucrative venture, but many farmers in the region fail to realize its economic potential because they rely solely on outdated methods.
He stated that embracing modern and climate-smart farming techniques would help farmers increase their yields and reap maximum benefits from their work.
“Farming is a lucrative business; however, most farmers in our part of the world do not see it as such, and as a result, they do not reap the full benefits of their work. I encourage farmers to adopt modern and climate-smart farming techniques, as these will help them increase their yields and maximize the benefits of farming.” He said.
According to him, one of the pressing challenges confronting farmers is the deplorable nature of roads leading to farming communities. He appealed to the government to rehabilitate these roads, explaining that several farm produce go to waste because farmers struggle to transport them to markets on time.
“One of the major challenges farmers face concerns the deplorable state of the roads leading to our farms. We appeal to the government to come to our aid and rehabilitate these roads, as many of our farm produce are left to rot because we struggle to transport them to various markets.” He told our reporter.
He further highlighted the visible effects of climate change, citing unpredictable rainfall patterns as evidence. He advised the public to plant more trees and refrain from the indiscriminate felling of trees, which he described as a major driver of environmental degradation.
“Climate change is real, and we can all attest to it due to the changes in rainfall patterns. My advice to the public is to plant more trees and avoid the indiscriminate felling of trees, as this is one of the major causes of climate change.” He said.
Mr. Frank Nti seized the opportunity to urge farmers to shift from conventional farming methods and embrace technology-driven, climate-smart approaches that enhance productivity and safeguard the ecosystem.
“Finally, I urge farmers to move away from the conventional way of farming and embrace technology-driven, climate-smart agriculture.”
